The clinical definition of shock is decreased flow and evidence of tissue hypoxia within the presence of adequate intravascular volume. Shock is that the leading explanation for death in acute myocardial infarction (MI), with mortality rates as high as 70-90% within the absence of aggressive, highly experienced technical care. Cardiogenic shock (CS) may be a common explanation for mortality, and management remains challenging despite advances in therapeutic options. Cardiogenic shock is caused by severe impairment of myocardial performance that results in diminished cardiac output, end‐organ hypoperfusion, and hypoxia. Clinically this presents as hypotension refractory to volume resuscitation with features of end‐organ hypoperfusion requiring pharmacological or mechanical intervention. Acute myocardial infarction (MI) accounts for 81% of patient in Cardiogenic shock, The blockage of the arteries and Blood vessels which provide oxygen and nutrient rich blood to heart. It is also called coronary heart disease and is the leading cause of death in humans. This occurs when the coronary arteries become blocked or clogged, often this leads to an irregular heartbeat - called an arrhythmia - that causes a severe decrease in the pumping function of the heart. A blockage that's not treated within a couple of hours causes the affected cardiac muscle to die.
