One of the foremost typical and chronic problem in Korean psychological state system is that the prolonged length

of hospital stay. In contrast to there are many components which results in long length of stay of psychiatric patients

in Korean situation like low and glued medical fee for psychiatric inpatient treatment, shortage of community

resources, lack of care-givers’ awareness then on, there are just few mechanisms to handle this issue like Mental

Health Review Board (MHRB) which is predicated on psychological state Act since 1995. However, the discharge order rate was

very low and there community care system after discharge order remains very weak

The most typical problem of the psychological state system in

Korea is that the increasing trend within the number of psychiatric

beds along side the prolonged length of hospital stay. The

ratio of psychiatric beds per 1,000 persons stands at about

0.9, which is less than that of Japan (2.8), Belgium (1.8)

and Germany (1.3) However, considering the upward

trend in psychiatric beds during the past decade, Korea

is one among the few OECD member countries that have

witnessed a rise in psychiatric beds.
