DNA Microarrays:

The DNA microarray may be a tool wont to determine whether the DNA from a specific individual contains a mutation in genes like BRCA1 and BRCA2. The chip consists of a small glass plate encased in plastic. Some companies manufacture microarrays using methods almost like those wont to make computer microchips. The principle behind microarrays is that complementary sequences will bind to every other. The unknown DNA molecules are dig fragments by restriction endonucleases; fluorescent markers are attached to those DNA fragments. These are then allowed to react with probes of the gene chip . The limitations of DNA microarray technology are high background levels owing to cross-hybridization; limited dynamic range of detection owing to both background and saturation signals comparing expression levels across different experiments is usually difficult and may require complicated normalization methods.
