Articles On Insulin Resistance

Insulin resistance is determined as an impaired biologic response to insulin stimulation of target tissues, mainly the, muscle, adipose tissue and liver. Insulin resistance impairs glucose disposal, owing in a compensatory enhance in beta-cell insulin producing and hyperinsulinemia. The metabolic repercussions of insulin resistance can outcome in hyperglycemia, hypertension, dyslipidemia, visceral adiposity, hyperuricemia, elevated inflammatory markers, endothelial dysfunction, and a prothrombic state. Improvement of insulin resistance leads to the metabolic syndrome, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and type 2 diabetes mellitus. This article contains mainly the current understanding of insulin resistance and explains its role as a risk factor for diabetes and other conditions.
