Aldosterone Top Open Access Journals

Primary aldosteronism (al-DOS-tuh-ro-niz-um) may be a hormonal disorder that results in high vital sign . It occurs when your adrenal glands produce an excessive amount of of a hormone called aldosterone. Your adrenal glands produce variety of essential hormones, including aldosterone. Usually, aldosterone balances sodium and potassium in your blood. But an excessive amount of of this hormone can cause you to lose potassium and retain sodium. That imbalance can cause your body to carry an excessive amount of water, increasing your blood volume and vital sign . Primary hyperaldosteronism features a number of causes. About 33% of cases are thanks to an adrenal adenoma that produces aldosterone, and 66% of cases are thanks to an enlargement of both adrenal glands. Other uncommon causes include adrenal cancer and an genetic disease called familial hyperaldosteronism. Some recommend screening people with high vital sign who are at increased risk, while others recommend screening all people with high vital sign for the disease. Screening is typically done by measuring the aldosterone-to-renin ratio within the blood, with further testing wont to confirm positive results.
