Abstract:
Early orthodontic intervention can greatly influence craniofacial growth and prevent complex malocclusions in adolescence. Leonardo Costa from Sao Paulo outlines the principles and clinical protocols of interceptive orthodontics during the mixed dentition phase. This session covers the identification of skeletal discrepancies, arch length analysis, and the use of space maintainers, cross bite correction appliances, and functional appliances. Costa emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis, radiographic assessment, and growth prediction in managing Class II and III malocclusions. Attendees will gain practical insights into timing intervention to maximize orthopaedic response and minimize the need for future extractions or surgery.
