Abstract:
Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is rapidly becoming an indispensable tool in pediatric emergency departments. Rachel Lin from Singapore presents practical insights on integrating POCUS for real-time diagnosis and management of common pediatric emergencies such as pneumonia, intussusception, appendicitis, and pericardial effusion. The session will highlight training protocols, equipment considerations, and how to interpret sonographic findings in pediatric patients with subtle clinical signs. Lin will share case based evidence and discuss the utility of POCUS in reducing time to diagnosis, improving procedural safety (e.g., in line placements and abscess drainage), and enhancing clinical confidence. This session is aimed at general paediatricians, emergency physicians, and trainees interested in mastering bedside ultrasound for pediatric care.
