Abstract:

Early detection of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is critical for timely intervention and improved developmental outcomes. Samuel Ortega from Guadalajara shares practical screening approaches for paediatricians and primary care providers. The session will discuss red flag behaviours in infants and toddlers, the use of validated tools such as M-CHAT-R/F, and strategies for family counselling during the early diagnostic journey. Emphasis will be placed on culturally sensitive communication and navigating caregiver denial or resistance. Ortega will present recent data from early intervention pilot programs in Latin America and introduce a framework for interdisciplinary referral systems that support both families and clinicians.
