Abstract:
Childhood obesity is a multifactorial epidemic with lifelong consequences. Luca Romano from Rome presents an updated, holistic approach to pediatric obesity that transcends traditional BMI measurements. In this talk, Romano examines early-life risk factors, genetic predispositions, and the influence of urban environments on children???s health. He proposes an integrated care model involving dieticians, psychologists, and family physicians to address behavioral and emotional factors. The use of wearable tech for activity monitoring and motivational counselling is also discussed. This session will empower paediatricians with practical strategies to engage families in sustainable lifestyle changes, with a focus on early prevention and adolescent care transitions.
Biography:
Luca Romano is a pediatric endocrinologist and nutrition specialist based in Rome, Italy. He earned his MD and PhD at Sapienza University and completed further training in pediatric obesity at Boston Children???s Hospital. He serves as a policy advisor for the Italian Ministry of Health and is an advocate for evidence-based, child-centered obesity interventions.
