We developed a set of standards and an atmosphere that fosters the prompt delivery of quality reviews with the help of the senior and associate editors. Expedited reviews are one of these policies. Before being forwarded to reviewers, manuscripts are evaluated by the editor-in-chief, senior editor, and associate editor. At any of these stages, the editor may reject the work or return it to the author for revision. This allows for a far faster response to the authors while still preserving reviewing resources for other papers. In the case of urgent revision, writers are given the opportunity to present an improved article to the final reviewers, improving the chances of acceptance.
