Mechanical Engineering Innovations
Mechanical engineering is a varied specialty within the engineering department that derives its extent from the need to design and manufacture the whole thing from small individual parts and devices (e.g., inkjet printer nozzles and microscale sensors) to large systems (e.g., spacecraft and machine tools). Mechanical engineers work mostly in engineering services, manufacturing, research and development. Specialized mechanical engineering subjects include energy conversion, biomechanics, cartilage-tissue engineering, laser-assisted materials processing, MEMS, combustion, microfluidic devices, nanomechanics, fracture mechanics, micropower generation, tribology (wear and friction), and vibrations. Mechanical Engineering Innovations in past few years are (a) an absorber design using a natural hyperbolic material for harvesting solar energy (b) Windows double as solar panels (c) Biodiesel production from waste cooking oil by using an ultrasonic tubular reactor (d) Acoustic Wave Separation (e) Hybrid simulation of thunderstorm outflows and wind excited response of structures.
