As such, fostering sun protection habits is crucial in preventing the occurrence of this potentially deadly disease. The risks of sun exposure

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation, a component of sunlight, plays a pivotal role in the development of skin cancer. There are three main types of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Prolonged exposure to UV radiation damages the DNA in skin cells, increasing the risk of mutations that can lead to cancerous growths [2].

Melanoma, though less common than other types of skin cancer, is particularly dangerous due to its ability to spread rapidly. The American Cancer Society estimates that over 100,000 new cases of melanoma are diagnosed annually, underscoring the urgent need for effective prevention strategies [3].

Importance of sun protection habits

Community education is a powerful tool in promoting sun protection habits. Schools, workplaces, and healthcare providers can play a pivotal role in raising awareness about the dangers of UV exposure and the importance of preventive measures.

Encourage regular skin checks

Early detection is crucial in the successful treatment of skin cancer. Encourage regular skin self-examinations and annual professional skin checks. Prompt identification of suspicious moles or lesions allows for timely intervention and improved outcomes [9].

Parents, teachers, and community leaders can influence sun protection behaviors by setting an example. Demonstrating consistent sun-safe practices reinforces the importance of these habits to those around you [10].
