Allied Academies News Number 10 - Spring 2002

nash02-group

The Nashville Conference is over and it was a smashing success. It was our largest group ever, with over 200 participants! We had more than 40 people involved in the Internet Division, and we published over 200 manuscripts in the Proceedings. Authors representing half a dozen different nations, and more than thirty states within the United States participated in the conference (our 13th meeting of the Allied Academies). We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all who participated. It is the authors and the conference participants who make the Allied Academies successful and who support our efforts to achieve our mission.

Summer Internet Conference

Due to the continued popularity of the Internet Division, we will have our fourth International Summer in July 2002. It will be the same as a physical conference in every way, with the exception of having to travel. Participants can submit their papers for award consideration and the winners will be published in the appropriate Journal. There will be a conference Proceedings published on-line as well as on CD, and a conference Program published both in hard copy and on-line. A bulletin board will be live on the web site where participants can post comments and questions regarding the papers published in the Proceedings. All participants can also submit video taped or Power Point presentations to be published on our web site as a companion to their paper. The Internet conference will run for two weeks giving all of the participants plenty of time to participate as their schedules and time zones allow (no strict schedule will be required). See our Submission Instructions page for information on submitting.

NEW Academies & Journals

We have been restructuring our affiliate Academies and Journals to better define the types of manuscripts suitable for each and provide our members with a wider variety of publication outlets.  We currently publish 15 different Journals representing every area in the School of Business and have 3 newly proposed Journals.  This restructuring will take some time to fully implement, but we hope that these changes will be beneficial to our authors.  For more information about our affiliate Academies and the types of manuscripts they publish, please visit our Affiliate Academies page.

Fall Conference in Las Vegas

lasvegas

Our Fall 2002 International conference will again be held in Las Vegas at the New Frontier Hotel and Casino. We fully expect this to be another great conference and hope that everyone will be able to participate, either by attending or via the Internet Division. See our Submission Instructions page for information on submitting. We hope to see you all there!

Journals

The new issues of the Journals will be out this Summer. We will publish them online as well as in hardcopy format.  We will be changing the way we handle the online versions of our Journals with a new system we are currently researching.  This new system will limit access to users who are current members of a given Academy via password protection.  We will also continue to work toward getting all of our back issue Journals on-line.  Once that process is complete, we will have the ability to sell CDs containing all of the issues of any given Journal, as well as reprints of any given article.

Distinguished Research Awards

nash02-pic4

We would like to congratulate the Distinguished Research Award Winners for Nashville, 2002. The competition was extremely rigorous and intense. After extensive review, the panel of judges awarded distinguished research status to less than 20% of the manuscripts. The authors of the following works will receive engraved plaques, and the manuscripts will be published in the next regularly scheduled issue of the appropriate journal.

Honorable Mention Research Awards

nash02-pic2

Because the volume of high quality research was so high, the Awards Committee decided to identify a number ofmanuscripts for honorable mention status. Authors of manuscripts awarded this distinction were recognized with a medallion and a certificate to mark their achievement and the manuscripts will be published in the next regularly scheduled issue of the appropriate journal. With these added award winners, the number of manuscripts selected for publication was 25% of the eligible total.
