One of the most common tests used to diagnose MI is an Electro Cardiogram (ECG), which measures the electrical activity of the heart. Other tests that may be used include blood tests, chest X-rays, echocardiograms, and cardiac catheterization. The treatment of MI depends on the severity of the condition and the extent of the damage to the heart muscle. The goal of treatment is to restore blood flow to the affected area of the heart as quickly as possible to prevent further damage [3,].
Medications such as aspirin, nitro-glycerine, and heparin may be used to help dissolve blood clots and reduce the risk of further clots forming. Oxygen therapy may also be administered to increase the amount of oxygen in the blood. In some cases, more invasive treatments may be necessary. Angioplasty is a procedure in which a small balloon is inflated inside the blocked artery to widen it and improve blood flow. A stent may also be placed to help keep the artery open. In more severe cases, bypass surgery may be necessary to reroute blood around the blocked artery. The recovery period after an MI can vary depending on the severity of the condition and the extent of the damage to the heart muscle [4,].
Most people will need to make significant lifestyle changes, including quitting smoking, adopting a healthy diet, and engaging in regular exercise. Cardiac rehabilitation programs may also be recommended to help improve physical fitness and reduce the risk of further heart problems. Preventing MI is key to reducing the risk of developing this serious medical condition. Lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, and eating a healthy diet, can all help reduce the risk of developing heart disease. Regular check-ups with a healthcare provider can also help identify and treat risk factors early .
