Introduction
Thrombocytopenia is a medical condition characterized by a lower-than-normal platelet count in the blood. Platelets, also known as thrombocytes, are small, disc-shaped cells that play a critical role in blood clotting. When an individual has thrombocytopenia, their ability to stop bleeding is impaired, which can result in excessive bruising, spontaneous bleeding, and difficulty healing from injuries.
