Introduction

The Fall International Conference in Reno turned out to be another great conference!  We all enjoyed the Atlantis last year so we decided to go back again.  It is a very nice hotel with a great deal to offer.  We also had a great turn out and many folks expressing their fondness of Reno.  Reno had a very early snowfall while we were there which blanketed the surrounding mountains with beatiful white snow, which stranded one of our participants on the other side of Donner Pass.  She was not stranded in the literal sence, just prevented from crossing without the proper vehicle tires.  For those who did make it, and we had some people coming from all over the US as well as the opposite side of the globe, good sessions were had by all and we heard nothing but positive remarks.  We strive hard to keep it that way and we learn a few new things at every meeting, despite the fact that we have been at this for a long time.  We greatly appreciate all of those who attended both in person and via the Internet Division.  It is you who make this organization what it is.

UPCOMING CONFERENCES


Spring 2008 International Conference in Tunica, MS

We will be holding our Spring 2008 International Conference in Tunica, MS (April 3-4, 2008).  We held one of our conferences there a few years ago, but in case you are not familiar with Tunica, it is a small town located close enough to the Mississippi River to have casinos.  We will be staying at the Gold Strike Casino Resort, which is a very nice hotel and they have offered us a very good room rate of $62 per night on weekdays and weekend rates at $109 per night.  You can also find out more information on our Conference Call page.  We have the registration form up, but the paper submission forms are being updated as we speak.  If you need to email me a paper to get an acceptance letter and funding approval, please do so and I can process it the old fashioned way while they are under construction.  Otherwise I will be sending out another email announcement when the new forms go live (sometime in December).  We hope to see you all there. 

Summer International Internet Conference

Our Summer 2008 International Internet Conference (July 18-31) has been growing in popularity among our members and gives participants the ability to submit papers just as they would for a normal conference without having to go anywhere.  As many of you know, submitting a paper for award consideration at one of our conferences is a very effective way to get your paper considered for Journal publication very quickly.  Participation is as easy as reading through the online proceedings, choosing those papers that interest you, then sharing comments on the message board regarding things you would like to share about your paper or other peoples'.  We will also post Power Point presentations to our web site if you wish.  Submission deadline is July 4.  We hope to "see" you there.

JOURNAL NEWS

We have had our system designer busy implementing different phases of our web site and are making good progress toward our end goal. This means it remains a work in progress, but this also means it is ever improving. At this point we have most of our most recent journals online and viewable by members only (I still have more files to go but the system is in place). We also have a new Direct Submission Review form for those of you who review for us. This one is far nicer than the temporary forms we had been relying on, but it will be taken to another level of automation in Phase 4 (stay tuned). Right now, we have Phase 3 in the works which will replace the temporary conference submission forms we had been relying on. The old Abstract, Proceedings/Scheduling, and Award submission forms are all getting a make over and we expect them to be quite an improvement. We will send out an announcement to notify you of the completion of these conference submission forms.

Beyond the online system, which is in a state of continuous improvement, we are also working on getting our journals more exposure, which we expect will benefit both you, the authors, as well as us. To this end, we have gotten accounts with ProQuest, EBSCO, and Thomson-Gale who are indexing all of our recent back issue journals. We have also hired a family member to break up all of our back issue journals so that we can have them indexed with Google Scholar. This was a suggestion made by one of our Editors who suggested that the tracking method Google uses for the number of times a paper is cited is becoming more valuable to deans and promotion committees. This means being listed in Google Scholar will make your papers more available and trackable.

ALLIED ACADEMIES AWARDS

Creative and Innovative Teaching Awards

The Academy of Educational Leadership sponsors special awards to recognize innovative and creative teachers and educational programs. To be eligible for consideration, an individual must be nominated by a member of the Allied Academies and undergo evaluation by the Teaching Awards Committee. The following individuals have met the criteria and have been judged by the Committee to be worthy of the designation, Distinguished Teachers. We extend to them our sincere congratulations.

Distinguished Research Awards

We would like to congratulate the Distinguished Research Award Winners. The competition was extremely rigorous and intense. After extensive review, the panel of judges awarded distinguished research status to 25% of the manuscripts. The authors of the following works will receive engraved plaques, and the manuscripts will be published in a future issue of the appropriate journal.
