Clostridium difficile enteritis after total abdominal colectomy for ulcerative colitis

Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) enteritis is a rare infection that has been reported in the literature. This diagnosis is difficult to establish as it requires a high degree of clinical suspicion. Nevertheless, it is associated with a high morbidity and mortality rate. We report a case of fulminant C. difficile enteritis in an elderly female with ulcerative colitis after a total abdominal proctocolectomy and end ileostomy.
