Introduction

The Memphis Conference of the Allied Academies turned out to be a great conference!  We had numerous compliments on the conference hotel as well as the presentations.  We had right around 200 registrants with 160 participants physically present and another 40 or so in the Internet Division.  We would like to thank all of you who participated as it is the authors and the conference participants who make the Allied Academies successful.  We greatly appreciate your support and positive feedback.

As you know, Allied Academies is a not for profit corporation and is not sponsored by any university or organization.  We are dependent upon conference registration fees, and contributions from interested and supportive groups.  Our mission is to support and encourage the exchange of ideas in higher education throughout the world.  To that end, we sponsor conferences and publish journals.  In addition, we maintain this web site which has developed into an important communication medium for our membership and for scholars from around the world.  We publish our journals simultaneously in hard copy and on the web page, and you can view conference proceedings, newsletters and academy information there as well.

Summer International Internet Conference

Our Summer 2005 International Internet Conference (July 18-31) is coming up and we are taking several steps to enhance the experience of the participants.  We will be introducing some new ideas posed to us by our members that we hope will increase the level of participation and enhance the overall experience for those participating.  As we strive for continuous improvement, please e-mail us to let us know if you have any suggestions.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Internet Conference, it has continued to grow in popularity and this July we will have our 8th Summer International Internet Conference. With budget shortfalls and reduced travel allowances, the Internet Conference has become a necessity for some and a luxury for others.  It is the same as a physical conference, with the exception of having to travel.  The conference will be held completely online, with the ability for participants to communicate via a message board, e-mail, instant messaging, Power Point, and video if they so choose.  

As with our physical conferences, participants can submit their papers for award consideration, then 25% will be selected as winners and will have their works published in the appropriate Journal. There will be a conference Proceedings and Program published on-line.  The Internet Conference will run for two weeks giving participants plenty of time to participate as their schedules and time zones allow. Fall International Conference in Las Vegas

The Fall 2005 Conference in Las Vegas is also slated for October 12-15.  We will be holding the conference at the newly renovated Riviera Hotel and Casino.  We have secured an excellent room rate of $99 per night for our participants.  Due to numerous suggestions to return to Las Vegas, we have spent many months trying to find the right hotel for the job.  We believe we have now done that and are hoping that you will all be able to join us.  We are expecting this to be another great turnout and are gearing up for our best turnout yet.  We hope to make some modification to our online paper tracking and registration system prior to encouraging submissions for this conference.  However, we have had some people already register in order to get money out of this budget year.  We will keep those of you on our e-mail list posted as our system develops and will let you know when we will begin accepting submissions.  As usual, the Internet Division will allow registrants to participate without traveling to the Conference, but we still hope to see a large number of you all there!

Spring International Conference in New Orleans

The Spring 2006 Conference in New Orleans is slated for April 12-15, 2006.  We had so much positive feedback from our participants the last time we were there, we decided to go back.  In fact, we will be holding the conference at the same Hilton New Orleans Riverside we used for the Spring 2004 conference.  We will be receiving the same wonderful room rate of $89 per night for our participants.  Again, you spoke and we listened.  We are expecting record attendance for this conference as well.  Despite being a long way from accepting submissions for Spring of 2006, we have already received several registration fees for this conference as well.  We will keep those of you on our e-mail list posted as we get closer.  We hope to see you all there as well.

Academies & Journal News

We have spent the last year getting caught up on publishing the 16 different Journals we currently publish.  Due to some unforeseen problems we were unable to publish the Summer 2004 issues that many people were expecting.  We have published most of the copies that should have come out last Summer, but do have a couple issues still in the queue.  Our apologies for the delay.  We are implementing some new systems that will ensure more efficient handling as we go forward.

All of our Journals have a 25% acceptance rate and are listed in Cabell's, and represent every area in the School of Business.  We have not been updating the online Journals web page because of some impending changes in the accessibility of our Journals.  Our plans are to make only the table of contents available for public browsing and allow access to the full Journals only to our current members.  We hope this added layer of protection will allow us to sell subscriptions to libraries and subscription agencies as well.

Creative and Innovative Teaching Awards

The Academy of Educational Leadership sponsors special awards to recognize creative and innovative teachers and educational programs. To be eligible for consideration, an individual must be nominated by a member of the Allied Academies and undergo evaluation by the Teaching Awards Committee. The following individuals have met the criteria and have been judged by the Committee to be worthy of the designation, Distinguished Teachers. We extend to them our sincere congratulations.

Jack E. Tucci, Mississippi State University

Creative and Innovative Education Award

The criteria for recognition include the on going delivery of outstanding instruction and education,  and, the practice of innovative and creative education.  Any academic unit of  a college or university is eligible for consideration, but a unit may not win the award more than once.  The following unit has met the criteria and has been judged by the Committee to be worthy of the Distinguished Education Award.  We extend our sincere congratulations to Western Carolina University,  Entrepreneurship Faculty, and to the administrators who support this exceptional unit.  The department won the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship Outstanding Model Program for its Master of Entrepreneurship, the first program of its kind in the Nation.

Distinguished Research Awards

We would like to congratulate the Distinguished Research Award Winners.  The competition was extremely rigorous and intense.  After extensive review, the panel of judges awarded distinguished research status to 25% of the manuscripts.  The authors of the following works will receive engraved plaques, and the manuscripts will be published in the next regularly scheduled issue of the appropriate journal.
